all i can say is that "from my experience" shorter gears means faster ET's

so "faster ET's" is where I want to be not FASTER in general i guess.

with shorter gears i can get a faster ET than with longer gears that would = shorter gears are better would it not.

given the traction is there of course!

If you shift and fall to 5500 you have a better chance of falling out of boost and having a little lag between shifts. The higher you can keep the rpms between shifts, the less lag you will have. You would want to fall back in your power band when you shift.
Your not seeing the point... im only going to do this once.... A LS makes low end TQ and has a lot wider powerband.... a B16 is lacking in the TQ area and also has a shorter powerband.... there for a LS can have a longer gear and use it.... a b16 would be falling out of its powerband every time you shift it.... you may get a faster time with a stock or slightly moded LS with a b16tranny because a shorter gear is easier to turn.... once you get high boost or a set up with a good TQ curv and a nice long powerband it will love the LS tranny.... ever ran some one with a LS tranny and a motor that makes the power to run your car with the B16 tranny? when you shift the LS is going to keep pulling right on by you, giving it has the power to turn the longer gear..... there for you shifting more is hurting you..... its all about the motor.... a B16 sucks with a LS trans but a turbo motor or a good rounded LS works good with one....
im shure there is typo`s dont even bother telling me

Yes I have raced a 250hp-ish LS and he didn't pull on me. Everyone has to shift, it takes me less then a sec to shift. When I shifted into 3rd I started pulling. But this short vs. long gear really depends on what motor you have and what setup you are running. For vtec motors, I have yet to see one at the track that prefers LS tranny over a b16 for the track. I tried both trannies at the track on the same motor, stock LS, stock gsr, and both turbo'd. The shorter gear gave me better times.

ZeroMR is absolutely correct. When you shift, you want to go down to the highest RPM possible so that it is in your powerband. all this shit about people shifting and catching up is a moot point when you race. If you are racing the car and shifting correctly, no one should be catching up to you as they have to shift as well and the hundreths you each lose will equal.

I dont know any racer that chooses the LS trans over an ITR or GSR. THE ITR may be a little too short, but the GSR is best suited for a boost app.

Well I need a cable tranny, unless i get the "hydro conversion". What cable tranny would be best for what I want to do..? I will be boosting in the summer time...wont be where I want to be with horsepower, I will be building another block so I can boost higher so just 9psi for summer time and then come next spring I will be boosting 20psi plus at the track.....suggestion's on tranny and flywheel combo?

The highest RPM is not always in you powerband.... nore is that always helping you .... with most vtec motor you have a short powerband and you dont want to fall much during a shift.... but with a high hp car with a strong power badn you can use it to your advantage .... im not going to try to explane this again...
