Headgasket help please...
This is coming at bad time financially but, I think the headgasket is going on my '88 528e. Here's a breakdown of events. The car been burning about 1 quart of oil / 600 miles for the last year or so I've owned this car. Well, the car had gone about 500 miles since it's last dino-juice feeding, so I decide to check out the dipstick. It registers full! How odd?!? Then I notice some white, gooey residue around the dipstick... I check the oil level again, full... more goo. The consistency of the oil isn't really that of oil. It seems awful watery. These are all bad, bad signs. The car isn't pluming white smoke or anything, and seems to be running ok. But I'm obviously concerned. One thing I can't figure out is that the overflow bottle is pretty much full. A little low, but nothing major. I would have thought that if the car was trading oil for water quart for quart, the overflow would be low. All advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
