I never really understood it either, but that was the explanation I was given by someone. I do think my headlight washers are neat though

Its not really because it rains more. The roads there are alot darker. Not as many lighted roads like we have. Plus there isnt as many rest stops along the way so as a safety feature wipers or just washers were installed so that ICE, dirt, snow, and mud could be wiped away for safer night driving.

I think they're mandatory in some (all?) European countries for whatever stupid reason. Some manufacturers just don't bother to take them off of their US market cars.
