Learn to Rally Day
Ever wondered what it would be like to pit yourself against the clock? Do you enjoy precision driving? Could you navigate from point A to point B just by reading a set of instructions? Do you enjoy matching wits with the unknown? Do you work well as a team member?
If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, you need to try an SCCA RoadRally. These events are run in your daily driver at speeds usually below the posted speed limits on public highways. The driver and navigator must complete a predetermined course in a set time following a specific group of instructions. It's not about speed - it's about accuracy and precision.
This school provides the perfect introduction to the world of SCCA RoadRallying. You'll learn all about the concepts and techniques to be competitive in all type of rallying.
Understand the basic principles of "time-speed-distance" rallying
Discover why rally time is measured in "cents"
Learn to use rally tables to your advantage
See how the concept of "bought time" corrects past mistakes
Find out how a "DIY checkpoint" can be your best friend
Sharpen your driving & navigation skills
Acquire the basic skills in the classroom & exercise them on an actual RoadRally the same day
Start/Finish: Pungo Pizza & Ice Cream (1824 Princess Anne Road) in Virginia Beach.
Directions: Follow Indian River Road south (I-64 exit 286B) until you reach the famous traffic light at the intersection with Princess Anne Road in downtown Pungo. Turn left at the light. Pungo Pizza is less than a quarter mile up on your right.
Preliminary Schedule: Saturday, April 26, 2003. (Rain or Shine)
9:30 AM - Registration and Tech Inspection
10:00 AM - Rally School Starts (clipboard & 4-function calculator recommend, but not required)
11:31 PM - First Car Off
1:00 PM - First Car Finishes (approximate)
2:00 PM - Awards Presentation
Additional Information: Greg Smith, 674 Masefield Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23452, (757) 463-2793
Registration: Please send your filled out pre-registration form (below) and entry fee of $10.00 (for SCCA members) or $15.00 (for non-members) payable to "ODR-SCCA" to Greg Smith (address above). Pre-registration will assure we have enough sets of route instructions and prizes on-hand, although drive-ins are welcome. Minors (17 & under) must have a release form signed by both parents to compete on the mini-RoadRally. (Contact Greg Smith for a Minor Release form.)
Classes: Novices are limited to four or fewer events by the driver and navigator combined, equipment limited to Stock or Limited. E - equipped: No limitation on equipment. L - limited: Computation equipment cannot receive direct input from any distance-measuring device. All inputs for mileage must be made manually. S - stock: Paper and writing implement, timepieces which cannot be varied in rate, slide-rules, four-function single-memory non-programmable calculators, speed tables or factors, and stock odometers. Please note: Curta calculators are no longer allowed in the Stock class. Curta users will be class 'L'.
