Re: cycle ??
I started on a 98 CBR F3 it was a great bike. If you are comfortable on a motorcycle an F3 or F4 should be a good starter. I payed 4K for mine in 2001. You can find them now for around 2-3.5K for one with somewhat low mileage and in good shape.

If you are not stupid and can control your right hand, a 954 could be fun but is a lot of motor and gets you into trouble FAST. I always hear about the Honda 600's being a good starter bike for new sport bike riders. They can get you into as much trouble as the 954. Just not as fast! My parents used to own a motorcycle rental business down in FL so I've been lucky to ride a few bikes. Mostly cruisers. My favorite starter bike was the Honda Magna V35 and Yamaha Virago. The fastest bikes I've been on so far are my Harley Sportster and the Honda V65 Sabre weused to have. The Kawasaki ZN700 was also a blast but had an electrical ghost.

As kwth8n said, be patiet don't impulse buy. I made that mistake twice and it bit me in the ass. First was a TL1000r that had motor problems and second was an R1 with a bad tranny. I bought both without riding either one and hated both of them.
