Default Steering Head Bearing ?

Any of you bike techs or dealership guys have a PN for steering head bearings on a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Standard? I'm finally getting around to swapping the 'busa front end on the XS, but got the wrong bearings. I bought a set of tapered roller bearings made for a 'busa, but the upper bearing race is too large for the XS frame. I need to find something with the outer race diameter of the XS with the inner bearing diameter of the 'busa. I have the 'busa bearings, but need a part number or dimension to cross-reference on the XS bearing. Worst case scenario I can press the steering stem out and turn it down on the lathe, but I'd rather fix the situation with a bearing swap. Thanks in advance.

octane, go here : www.ohiocaferacers.com

the guy has a listing of every japanese motorcycle ever made, and the steering stem/ bearing size.

he also has some seriously kik-a$$ cafe styled bikes.

you need a 30x47x15 upper bearing, which isn't in any jap bike on that list (it's a pretty comprehensive list)

closest there is a 30x48x15 off an sr500 or something. think you have enough meat in the neck to get another 1mm of clearance for that bearing?

you may have to shave 5mm off the stem and use the stock xs size upper bearing. don't know if they'll be enough metal on the stem for that.

yeah, that's a good place to get parts, but if your doing custom installs like octane is trying to do, they won't have the info he needs.

Thanks man. Nah, I don't think the stem is thick enough to take 5 mil out of it without making it scary thin. I wonder if I can find a custom bearing somewhere. I can probably take a mil out of the neck, but that's a pain in the friggin ass. Do you have the tools to do that at the shop?

Thanks Stea1thy. BikeBandit.com is good for that stuff too, but like Skr00zloose said, they only list the stock stuff.

Hy skr00z - how do those dimensions read? A 30x47x15 would mean 30mm center hole, 47mm outer race diameter, and 15mm height, right? Thanks again.

Hey man - found a 30x47x12. Think I'm going to give that one a try. What do you think? That 3mm height going to make a difference once it's all together? Thanks for the help.
