dodge shadow 2.2l camshaft seal replacement
Hey guys/gals. Can anyone possibly tell me how to replace a cam seal on a 1991 2.2l non turbo dodge engine? I figured it out after I realized I was losing a lot of oil and now im putting about a quart in a week. I located it (obviously) and I took it to a mechanic and he told me im looking at $500 just to replace the cam seal because of the replacement of the timing belt and labor(if thats incorrect just let me know im kinda a rook). So i said forget it I'll replace it myself. I know im better off getting a civic but I cant afford it right now. Ive already replaced the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket myself and the only thing im really worried about is how to put the seal on and make sure i dont mess up the timing. I asked the guys at my local advanced auto parts and they have no idea. Any help is appreciated. If I posted in the wrong place just let me know.
thanks

Re: dodge shadow 2.2l camshaft seal replacement
The answer you're looking for: RTV the shit out of it.
The correct answer:
Replacing it probably involves removing the cam pulley. This involves disconnecting the timing belt, hence the high price. You can either
A.) Take it to your mechanic
B.) Replace just the seal ($5) and a bad idea
C.) Replace the seal, belt, tensioner, and W/P if its timing belt driven.
D.) Pay me $100 more than your mechanic is charging to do it.
Being a 91 dodge shadow? I'd drive it into the ground. . .
