Default Idle issues...

I have an LS in my 93 Civic hatch, and when my engine is cold it idles between 2000-2500rpm. It goes back and forth between the two resulting in a really annoying idle. I have tried everything to solve this other than just replacing the MAP sensor. I've cleaned it out, checked all the wires, tried adjusting the timing... When the engine warms up, it idles smooth at 700 w/ no problems. I am thinking that perhaps it is just the computer that needs to be replaced. I am about to lose my damn mind listening to this idle. Any suggestions or tips would help out a lot.

Why would this be a problem if the engine seems to start off a little higher than a new engine? It stays at idle at 700 rpms when warm the whole time after the engine is warmed up right? No check engine lights comes on, right? You need to be more descriptive for us to help you. Such as how does it run? Etc. Hpw many miles is this engine? Does it have temp spikes? Does it shut off?

When i go out to my car in the morning it starts off at 2500rpm and then goes back and forth between 2500 and 2500 until the engine is completely warmed up. I don't get a check engine light, everything works just fine. It's just during the "warm up cycle" that it has a "jumping idle." The car runs great, nice and fast. The engine has 50K miles on it and it's out of a 94 Integra LS. It never has any probs with overheating or anything, and never shuts down. I changed the MAP sensor today, and still no good. This engine was a junkyard engine...do you think that might have anything to do with it? Also, would a vacuum leak cause it to have a jumping idle when the motor is cold? I hope this is a little more desciptive.

So this junkyard engine is really from a 94 integra, 50k on the odometer. Usually older engines run like that on the beginning. I think you are being too anal about it. Let us know when some real problems come up.

check the screen in the IACV, might be starting to get dirty. burp the coolant system again, a little air might do that as well...

Thumbs up Re: Idle issues...

I did that too, when I thought the iacv filter was bad. i actually found out that most of my problem was the size of the cam that I put in. I was able to fix most of my idlinng problems when I had my vafc installed. Like they say "Two heads is always better than one" I am glad that it was an easy fix.
