quick question..
i did my searching and read the pinned topics..
but im still a bit confused on a couple of things.
im taking the msf safety course in november. after completing that, do i still take the knowledge and road skills test required by the dmv to obtain a permit?
and if i do have to take those test, do i hold my permit for 9 months.. or 30 days after i turn 19? i turn 19 in roughly 4 months.
thanks.

the permit is good for a year and there is no road test to get a permit, only a written test.

Re: quick question..
1. No you do not need a permit to take the class
2. The driving test part of the class counts for the DMV test, you will still have to take the written exam at the DMV
3. If you are over 19 you can get your license right away
4. if you are 18 you must wait 30 days
5. if you are younger 9months

Re: quick question..
Basically, you trade your MSF certificate for a license if you're over 19.

Re: quick question..
Providing a Virginia Rider Training Program certificate of completion that is issued after July 1, 2007 also exempts you from taking the motorcycle knowledge exam and when carried with your Virginia driver's license you may operate a motorcycle for 30 days from the date of course completion.
You owe this man a beer.

Re: quick question..
so what you guys are saying, since I'm 21 and already have my motorcycle permit and a drivers license, after I complete the msf course I'm done? no more written tests at the dmv?

Re: quick question..
damn i'm glad i never had to deal with all that crap when i got my license. i still see no point in a motorcycle permit. just another way of the state being a major pain in the ass. i'll be so happy when i get the hell out of here.
