Question Check engine light/O2 Sensor

4 June 03

Have a question. I just installed a straight pipe and took out the cat. converter. So now there is no O2 sensor hole in it, so what should I do? Can I get a hole made in the straight pipe? Does not using the O2 sensor make car run crappy as far as not buring right? I tape the sensor up for now, and still do not have a check engine light, so hopefully thats good thing. 99 Civic EX Thanks for you help.

Well this morning I threw a check engine code, so is there anything I can do to get light to go off?

if your not running hondata you need to get a bung welded on the straight pipe to screw the 02 sensor back in, yes the car is gonna run rich as hell if you dont put it back in and you will lose power, its in open loop right now and its just dumping fuel because its sensed that something has gone wrong, tip- get a bung and put the sensor back in or the code will not go away.......

yeah, your gas mileage is going to suck some serious ass. put your stock cat back in until you get a bung welded into the test pipe for the o2 sensor.

Alright guys, obd II cars have two o2 sensors. Upstream and Downstream. The downstream, or rear o2 sensor, is basically there to make sure the cat is working. He will not run rich, and not have bad gas mileage because of it. He will throw a CEL though. There is probably something you can wire in for the rear o2 sensor to make the ecu think its there and working, but I have obd I, so I dont have to worry about it
