Advice on a Mini-Cooper
#2
Well my cousin bought one about 3 months ago and I drove it around one evening the week after they bought it.
So here is my mini-review:
It was fun to drive in a "gimmicky" kind of way.
Suspension/handling was nice and it was not as slow as I anticipated.
As small as it is, there was actually some room and I am 6-2.
The instramentation was placed in a few odd positions and I didnt really like all the toggle switches.
That being said, I wouldnt ever buy one, as the novelty would wear off soon and I would realize I bought a go-kart on steriods.
Again thats just my opinion, no offense to anyone that owns one.
My cousin loves her mini.

It handles better than anything I have ever driven. I get kick ass gas mileage and it's fast enough for me....I don't drag race or anything.
But I do plan to auto-x it at some point.

The only downside to the small thing is that alot of times I can tell that people in big-ass SUVs really can't see me. So I just have to be extra alert when I am driving.
The best part about it being that size is that I have absolutely no blind spot. And I have a sunroof that takes up almost the entire roof.

my critique:
i'll comment on some of the other things that other guy said.
i'm 6'6", and fit fine. have a LOT of extra room, actually.
handles incredibly. better than any car i have driven before. turns on a dime. low center of gravity + short wheel base = incredible.
cooper comes with 115hp, cooper S with 163hp supercharged. i haven't driven the S, but the cooper, for "only" having 115hp, still has some UMPH to it, and could easily be tweeked for more power.
honestly, the only thing these cars would need (for an enthusiast) is a little more UMPH under the hood. a free-er flowing exhaust/intake would help a lot. handling is great "out of the box".
the guages i think are placed perfectly. right smack in front of you is the tach (the only thing any REAL racer needs). the speedometer is off to your right, mounted smack dab in the middle. it is large and easy to read though. the switches and HVAC controls are interestingly set up, but not too "bizarre" to make you cringe at the site.
the seats are very well constructed, with sturdy side bolsters to plant you to the seat while cornering.
the sunroof option is awesome. full roof glass.
and that, my friends, is my critique of the mini cooper. take it or leave it.

If there was a better after-market for them i believe we'd be seeing alot more of them. I saw they have a special option for an Upgraded Cooper S that pushes the HP up to 200. It's a bit pricey, but i believe that that would have, pleanty of that oumph you're looking for. haven't driven one, yet but would like to...

a better aftermarket??? are you kidding? John Cooper Works makes every damned part you can think of for that car. I was very impressed w/ the Cooper S i drove (this coming from a road course racer) , it handles awesome and was pretty damned quick. It could use a lil more HP to make it more fun on the track, and i am still considering getting one as a daily driver and leave the 7 parked except for track use.
My opinion?? Cooper S kicks ass
