carb motor prob.
Hello everyone I have a small problem. I have a carb motor. When the choke is closed the motor runs fine but when it is open it backfires threw the carb out the barrels, what could this be? Do I need to replace timing belt? Do I need to replace something in the distributor? Or could it be as simple as a carb. rebuild or clogged cat or exhaust pipe? And since it has backfired threw the carb does it need a rebuild anyway?
please help asap!
Thanks alot!

What kind of motor is this on?
Not all carbs are the same. I've seen an old weedeater that was like that, choke stayed on full to run, ran decent even, open it up and it'd pop, sputter, and die.

Re: carb motor prob.
Thats toyota right?
Unless it was something else on the motor that is ass backwards, I'd say the carb needs a rebuild.
I can't explain what would cause it get like that in the first place though, timing and dizzy wouldn't cause those symptoms. A clogged cat if it was really bad could maybe be tricking you.
My moneys on the carb.

Re: carb motor prob.
Why would a bad carb cause the engine to backfire? It only delivers fuel and air; it can't change the ignition timing. Sure, the carb may need a rebuild anyway, but I don't think it can cause a mechanically timed engine to backfire.

Re: carb motor prob.
because the carb dumps fuel, if the carb isnt working right it will not allow the fuel to dump at the right time in turn dumping fuel then igniting it at the wrong time when more fuel is being dumped causing a back fire is what i have been told
