mini me vs d16z6/d16y8
please move thread to off general discussion!
I am debating on what i want to get,i will either get a full d16y7 swap or a full d16z6 swap. Now im sure the y7 has less miles which is a plus, but comes with a dx tranny with is a negative. While the z6 has higher miles, comes with the ex tranny. For future options if i get the y7 i will put a y8 head on it just to be able to keep up in traffic. But i do not have a p28 so i wont even have vtec running in the d16z6 quite yet.So what would you choose and why:
d16y7 full swap
d16z6 full swap
Im staying d series because its easy, and i can keep my ac with no altercations(sp).
any opinions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Re: mini me vs d16z6/d16y8
judge them as you want:
1) y7/y8 oil pumps are crap
2) y7/y8 heads have quench pads
3) z6 has the best flowing stock oil pump of d-series motors
4) y7 has vtec sized valves
5) y7/y8 have small ports
6) vtec is useless in a boosted d-series
7) z6 crank has four oiling holes in the crank vs the y7/y8's two holes
8 ) y7/y8 have bearing issues (spinning them)
9) y7/y8 mini will net more CR then a z6
10) y7 has the same design IM as a DPFI d15
11) s20 a/b000 trans has aluminum shifter forks (spares the gear set when they break)
12) s40 a/b000 trans has steel shifter forks (ruins the gear set when they bend)
personally, built for boost z6 block w/ y7 head and a bisi stg.2 cam & bisi springs. and then of course add boost

however, if you don't plan on touching the block a z6 will be a better engine.
also, a y7 will pull on a z6 when the z6 has no vtec.

Re: mini me vs d16z6/d16y8
i would like to just run the vtec wires straight to the ecu, like i did in my crx.But i have never dealt with obd1 so im not sure what codes i will be throwing with a p28.

Re: mini me vs d16z6/d16y8
if you chip your P06 you can just disable the secondary and knock. adding vtec to the P06 is cheap (when combined with a chip service), and it will be just like the P28.
