Help me decide
Ok people,
Me and one of my friends have decided to go in on a cheap project... We want to build a really fast car..on a budget.. Its going to be a "street" car... but not daily driven.. Every once in a while, we'll probably take it to the street races.. It is going to be titled in new jersey, so we arent worried about how loud the car is or emissions or cops.. We are looking to spend about $5000 total.. We'd prefer rwd or awd and manual...It is getting built just to go straight.. No curves or anything like that... We'd like to hit high 9's on et streets... Basically, we want the most power possible in as light of a chasis as possible but still maintaining a sleeper look to it.. Got any ideas? It doesnt have to be an import either.. It'd be nice if it looked halfway decent... Untraditional swaps are welcome too...
So far suggestions we've come up with:
1. 2nd gen rx-7 with a boosted 350...
2. 2nd gen rx-7 with a t76 3-rotor...(might be way over our buget)
3. 1983-1989 280zx with a boosted v8
4. 1983-1989 280zx with an rb25 and a big turbo...
5. Turbo mustang 5.0 notchback...
6. 1990 240sx with rb25 and a big turbo...
7. Boosted chevy monte carlo ss
8. Turboed 'ol school bmw 325 with a built motor
9. Mitsubishi Mighty max truck with a 4g63 and a big turbo...
10. sr20det nissan truck with a bigger turbo
11. Mazda b2200 truck with a 13b or a 20b and a bigger turbo..
12. Older Toyota tacoma with a 1jzgte and a big turbo
13. Ol' school firebird/trans am with boost...
I just want to do something different... Any other suggestions? Do u favor any particular combo that i mentioned? why?

Re: Help me decide
I dont really see a possibility of buying a car, buying a v8, and boosting it being anywhere near 5k, at least not one that will run anywhere near 9's
If you want a super fast car, get an old gremlin or the OLDOLD mazda RX (rx3 or something? I dont think it was called an RX7, I forget) and throw a 351 or 454+ in it. Thats about all $5k will get you, and thats super iffy

Re: Help me decide
i guess i forgot to elaborate... the $5k would be just for the actual base platform (engine, tranny, rear end and shell)... the actual turbo kit and tuning is not included in that price... we were budgeting $5k to get the motor and shell and all the parts to get it running... probably another $3k-$4k for turbo parts and tuning..

Re: Help me decide
i think the goal of a high 9 second car anywhere underneath a $15,000 budget is pure pipe dreaming, especially if you want to keep it running. but here's my opinion..
a very well planned/built/balanced 500+ cid built solid roller BBC
VERY worked heads, probably going to have to use some AFRs or something like them, then pay to have them worked over
tube framed 2nd gen camaro
fuel cell
ford 9" with spool and probably A LOT of gear
90/10s
transbraked and built th-400
a lot of lexan
a lot of sheetmetal
a lot of tire
a lot of suspension work
a lot of nitrous
a very expensive fuel system
a very expensive oil system
