jdm d15b in a 98 ex.
so my d16y8 ended up spinning 2 rod bearings, and i just picked up a D15B vtec from j-spec. they said the motor should be plug and play, but iv been reading on a few forums that theres little things you have to do to make it run correct. i was planning on using my y8 ecu and harness, and swapping over my y8 intake manifold with the injectors and sensors.
questions:
1. Will my y8 ecu run this motor correctly?
2. Can i use my y8 intake and everything with it on the d15b?
3. Can i use my y8 harness
4. Anything else i need to know about this swap?
(Fabrik, it would be awsome if you could shed some light on this thread)
ps: trying to get this done before the meet saturday

As long as you have the OBD2 D15b, everything should work fine. The ECU will run the car but I recommend getting the correct ECU. I have the OBD1 D15b in my car and the z6 ECU ran the car but I noticed a difference in pickup and gas mileage with the correct ECU. Intake and harness should be no problem. The only thing about the swap you need to know is if you ever need to rebuild it, its a pain because the D15b seems to be 3 different D-series motors put into one. To rebuild it you need parts from a z6, b7, and another motor (not sure on the third.)

Where do you idiots get this shit? A D15b is just a JDM Z6, think of it like that. It's exactly the same, head code is like a P08, should be the same. Stroke and bore are the same, mounts are the same, timing belt has the same amount of teeth, etc.
I don't even know what the fuck "other motor" you'd even assume could be responsible for the fuck ups you must've been faced with.
There's basically vtec, non vtec, obd0/1/2, DPFI/MPFI, and if you want to get super fucking technical cause you think you're smart, SOHC/DOHC, which doesn't count because the D16A1(DOHC ZC) is a unique motor, and has nothing to do with any other D series.
I'm also not even aware of a OBD2 D15B honestly, pretty sure you just made that up. B series came into play with the EK chassis, they didn't care about single cam's in Japan by that point.

D15b is not the same as a z6. Pistons different, rods different, different cam, timing belt is different too. Trust me owned several.

Pistons are the same factory bore, same head design, but the D15B vtec has a shorter piston allowing a slightly longer stroke, slightly raising compression(9.2:1 / 9.3:1). Cam is the same, D15B vtec supposed to have more aggressive timing. Rods are the same. Timing belt does have the same amount of teeth. You only get difference's crossing vtec and non vtec parts.
Trust me, I've owned plenty too.

need to look a little closer. Intake ports on d15b is slightly different. Cam is more agressive, requiring vtec to come in later and ability to rev to 7500. Rods are identical i agree. pistons different.
