honda guys, get in here. need d16 motor help.
ok so im pretty sure that i spun a rod bearing or two. (pulling the motor out tonight). and im either just going to rebuild that motor (d16y8) or get a somewhat new complete motor and rebuild my present motor as a spare.
so onto my question, can i put a d16zc sohc vtec in my civic (1998) without swapping the ecu or any other parts? because i know that on a d16z6 it doesnt have a knock sensor and crank sensor, like the y8 does.
help me!!!
heres the motor im looking at:

Z6 does have a crank sensor. I'd doesn't have a crank fluctuation sensor, which is a completely different thing. Both engines have the crank sensor in the distributor. You should be able to drop in a Z6 with minimal work and you can use an OBD1 P28 and an OBD2-OBD1 adapter harness.

its an easy fairly plug and play swap, but if you really want to have some fun, get a b series in there. buy Kris.is.foamin's ls he has for sale.

base timing is different in these two engines, so the ecus are not the same. not saying you can't run it like that...might not run the best though.

thanks for all the help guys. but i might be scooping up a dohc zc motor. full swap. only $300 from a good friend. what are yalls opinions on the zc? and it has more hp than the y8, but less torque. which OVERALL do you think is a better motor?
