From non synthetic to synthetic oil.
About to buy a 2000 GSR. Is it bad to start putting synthetic oil in a motor thats been running regular for 125k miles?

I wouldn't advise it. I usually tell people, if you want synthetic oil then you need to start when the motor is fresh. No sense in putting a thin oil in a motor that may have leaks that haven't shown themselves due to thicker oil.

Well, yes and no. Some people just want the car to last that much longer untill they can get into something better. And others could use it to find what needs to be fixed. Or just go the safe way and replace all the seals.

I mean if you get a lighter weight, sure.
Synthetics, due to their stability, won't gunk up the seals so if there are leaks the synthetics will expose them over time as the gunk is cleared out. You won't have better or worse seals with synthetic or convenbtional oil. So if the logic is to maintain gunk in order to hang on to bad seals then stick with conventional.
