Default NASA HPDE Rules

Does anybody know what the NASA HPDE rules are about using a 5-point harness with only a harness bar. I can't get the rules to load on my computer and somebody told me that you could not run without a roll bar if using harnesses.

Thanks,

David

I would highly doubt that, as I've seen multiple cars running harness bars.

EDIT:
Pre-tech sheet says nothing about requiring roll-bars for harnesses. Unless of course you have a convertible and not a hard top, then you would need a roll bar.

I don't think there is a specific rule about it, but I know several instructors that won't want you wearing harnesses without roll over protection. So I guess its up to them.

I make the call on a case by case basis.

Yeah, if your in a non-convertible car, it's up to the instructor.

Thanks guys. The car is not a convertible, so I guess I would be ok. I want to run with NASA , but didn't want to pay for a membership just to find out that my car wouldn't be allowed on track.

You can run it, but you'd be much safer with factory 3 pt belts.

There is no rule against it but I wouldn't assume that you would be ok with that setup; it's really not safe for the worst case scenario. As a NASA instructor since ~2002 I would probably let you run whatever you want on your side as long as there is a factory seat + factory 3-point belt for my side. All (harness + seat + rollbar/cage) or nothing... that's my rule personally.

Thanks Jon. I will be at the Track Daze event this weekend. Plans were to make a roll bar this winter with my dad. Unfortunately, he was in an accident and those plans are now the least of my worries. I will run it like this until he is able to make the rest of the roll bar.
