timing belt
my timing belt wont stay on the edge of the cam gears closest to the block. it slides back to the outer edge and rubs against the valve cover. if it helps i have a prelude with a b20a5 in it. i tried putting it back on the inside edge but when i start the car it goes right back out to the edge. any help would be appreciated.

Re: timing belt
Thats why it is sliding to the outside edge of your cam gears... The tensioner is not supposed to be that tight, in fact it can actually do irreversable damage to your head and also wear your main bearings pre-maturely.

Re: timing belt
i figured it out. the thin metal piece with holes in it that goes between the crank pulley and the crank gear was missing. i put it back on and it did fine. thanks for the suggestions and the information anyway though.

Re: timing belt
all the tension on the tensioner is from the spring pulling it back. i didnt put any more than that cause i was affraid it would put tention on the belt and cause it to wear faster and snap.

Re: timing belt
The tensioner bearing is probably worn, or the bracket is bent. Something is making one of the pulleys crooked such that it is making the belt walk..
