Default 2017 Ford Fusion gets 325-hp Sport model with AWD

I think it's a mistake not to use the current Fusion front end, this one looks to Focusish to me, but you can't argue with that powertrain.

Enthusiasts and the Ford Fusion don't usually go together. That might be about to change. Ford is rolling out the 2017 Fusion Sport model that pumps out 325 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque put to the ground via all-wheel drive. Interested? We thought so.

The potent Sport model (Ford considered the ST or RS names, but decided that might be a bit much for the Fusion) leads the midsize sedan's refresh, which includes the addition of a Platinum model, more safety and technology, and fortified hybrid models.

"The Fusion nameplate is only 10 years old, but it's done a lot for Ford Motor Company," said Wade Jackson, Fusion marketing manager. "We're continuing to challenge Camry and Accord."

Still, the Sport model is the attention-getter. It runs a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 paired with a specially tuned six-speed automatic transmission. Its 325 horses outgun the V6 Camry and Accord models, and as Ford eagerly points out, the BMW 340i (by five ponies). The Fusion Sport model also has a continuously controlled damping suspension, blacked-out mesh grille, 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and dual-twin exhaust ports.

The 2017 Fusion also gets a Platinum model, which slots over the Titanium trim. Platinum adds cocoa and Venetian leathers to the cabin, 19-inch wheels, and a unique grille.

Meanwhile, the Fusion Hybrid and plug-in hybrid (Energi) receive software updates that Ford believes will deliver more efficiency, though executives wouldn't say if the fuel economy figures will change.

The Fusion line also gets Sync 3, an improved cruise control system, pedestrian detection, and an enhanced parking feature that allows for perpendicular maneuvers. The Fusion starts at $22,995. The Sport begins at $34,350, and the Platinum starts at $37,495.

The Fusion is Ford's best-selling car, and it moved 300,170 units in 2015, down 2.2 percent from 2014. It goes on sale this summer

^ I picked up a 2015 this year and my only real complaint is the lack of a more powerful setup

I like the way the fusion looks, and recently had a Focus ST, which was pretty dang cool. All the Ford range looks quality now, but I think I would prefer a Taurus SHO.

Taurus is just such a big damn car, feels odd driving it IMO.

In Europe there is a wagon Fusion, but unclear if it would ever get the ST badge.

Coworker of mine has one. Its pretty quick for what it is. My favorite part would be the seats he got in it. So comfortable, and massagers for your ass and back.
