2005 Civic LX gas mileage
Close friend of mine purchased this car last month for economical 100 mile daily commuting...
The car has a 13 gallon fuel tank, costs approximately $39 to fill up with todays prices when completely empty. The car now has about 2000 miles on it and it uses 87 octane fuel in it and has an Automatic (non CVT) transmission.
The problem is, this car only goes a good 380 miles on a tank mostly highway driving doing moderate speeds utilizing climate control instead of windows for decreased drag. My calculations put the Avg MPG around 29-30.
I would have thought this car would be in the 40+MPG range.
Does the engine need to break in more? Or is this what is expected out of this car?
Maybe she should have bought the Hybrid, but I also heard they didn't do as good as advertised.
Thanks in advance

Re: 2005 Civic LX gas mileage
it sounds like you're dividing 380 by 13 gallons, which is the maximum capacity of the tank. however, odds are she doesn't run it till it's bone dry every time. rather, she probably fills up when the gas light comes on, which would be when there's about 2.5 gallons left in the tank. so she's probably going about 380 miles on 10.5-11 gallons, which is over 35 mpg. which sounds about right for that car.

very good observation...
Makes sense when you step back and look..
thanks for your input.. it's difficult getting straight, intelligent help/advice on dragva.
I'll experiment further with it and see exactly how many miles can be achieved from full to close to empty.. (I will drive the the car next week)
