^idk about those bike as starter bikes. perhaps, something like a ninja 500, gs 500, or a sv 650 are better starter bikes. but they all have that sport look, not sure if you wanna get one of those. both the 500's you can get for like around $2kish used.

Go to www.gstwin.com and see if you can find a local bike. Good resource for the GS500 and members routinely sell decent bikes to each other in the $1K range.
