Hey, how do I check the switch for the horn on a 95 civic lx. I believe it is located around the steering wheel, ow do I check to see if it is working properly?

 

press the button with the picture of a horn on it, if a loud sound happens then it works.......

 

The moderators of this forum should really do something about the people that give stupid responses. If i'm asking how to check the switch then it obviously doesn't work when I press on the horn pad. I need to know what to look for inside the steering wheel, to know if it is connecting properly or not.

 

Clock spring, check it.

 

i replaced my horn couple of months ago.
here's the abbreviated troubleshooting process in order of simple to more difficult/time consuming:
1. confirm if the horn relay is clicking when the button is pressed.
2. confirm if fuse is okay.
3. disconnect battery, remove airbag to see if wiring/clock spring are intact (per above post).
4. reconnect battery to test if there is voltage to the horn - you'll have to remove the front bumper cover.
5. if everything checks out, you need to replace your horn.

if you aren't confident you can remove the airbag yourself, take it to a mechanic.

 

My car does not come with air bag, there is no voltage going to my horn, I am pretty sure it is the relay, where is it located? I Know it is under the dash, but where exactly, any distinguishing marks? let me know guys, thanks. Also, I appreciate somone finally giving me a proper response, and not a dumbass remark.

 

relay is off to the side of your under-dash fuse box.
black plastic looking thing about 1"x1" square-ish.
surely someone has taken a picture of it...may be try searching on h-tech (?)

YOu should have a wiring diagram available to you with the horn circuit in it. The wires going to your clock spring and pad (horn switch) and from should be clearly marked. One should have a positive supply of 12v, the other should recieve that voltage when the horn is pressed, this will indicate a problem with the horn switch before ripping your wheel apart. Determine the source of the problem before doing too much work.

 

I'm pretty sure it's the relay, no voltage can be read at the horn connection when horn is being pressed, and when the horn is pressed no clicking can be heard from relay. Is there anyway to repair the relay without buying a new one?
