get a thick headgasket, and low compression pistons, and buidl the block, you might want to upgrade the internals of the head, jsut to be on the safe side...
since you are taking the motor apart any wayz..
but low compression head gasket, low compression pistons, and some other things..

Get a low compression headgasket OR low comp. pistons.
NOT BOTH.

Personally, I would use Forged low comp pistons, forged rods,
oem gaskets throughout, new oil pump, water pump, timing belt
and tensioner assembly, new main bearings.

And don't forget any required machine work.
Maybe some main and head studs to tie it all together.

Plenty of power can be made with stock head, cams and gears.
IF you really MUST spend the money, many people have had
good luck with ITR/CTR cams (don't forget to upgrade your
springs/retainers/LMA's)

As far as a power increase, you probably won't see one, unless your
shit is completely worn out right now.
