Jspecs are hit and miss.
Keep in mind they make the exact same amount of power as the usdm engines.
The best way to find out about the engine is to swing it by (THE ONLY TIME YOU EVER SHOULD) a mazda dealership and fork over the 50-75 for a REAL compression test.
If you think 50-75 is expensive, ponder this:
My parents almost bought a 35' sailboat. It looked amazing, was in beautiful condition. They had it surveyed for 250. It turns out that there was rot in the deck, estimated cost of repair?
drum roll....
15-20,000.
So it pays to save in the long run. Note ALL the small things that don't work right, pay attention to the idle, and check the exhaust for smoke. If you have a vacuum gauge, see how many in of vacuum its pulling at idle.
