Yes, They are both hydraulic ..The only thing different is the gear ratio.

The gear ratio is almost the exact thing, the main difference is the shift forks. The z6 forks break if slammed hard and wrong while the y8 forks bend. Go ahead and choose, the material is different in the shift forks between the two.

Keep your tranny only differences is steel forks in the y8 wich are stronger but when they break mess up the tranny beyond repair vs alumnnium forks in the z6 tranny that break and can be replaced. A tranny swap isn't something quick and easy. Keep your z6 tranny.

they are essentially both the EXACT same thing. the main factor in choosing one for me would be milage. y8's are newer so tend to have lower miles and the syncro's tend to be in better shape. honestly, the z6 shift forks being a little weaker matters not at all unless you like slamming into first gear hard as a fuck all the time from second or are just the kind of person who will beat a car to no end.

the synchros in D series trannys are made of play-doh.

another question, just found out that all d series trannys are compatible, i just want to get the car back on the road until i can afford a b series swap, so i was thinking about the d15b7 and the d16b7. is there any difference? the reason im asking is because theres a guy that will sell me his d15b7 tranny for $75 with 90k from a 94 and another guy who will sell his d16b7 to me for $90 both off dx civics, now the original one i was going to get was the d16z6 for $200 from a guy on here. so now im not sure which one to get!? how noticeable is the horsepower? life of the tranny? would it just be worth it to get the d15b7 for $75 since i plan on taking it out in 6 months or so, plus this car isnt my daily driver, its my project/4th vehicle

any 92-00 D series tranny will bolt right up with no modification. there is a considerable gearing difference between the DX and the EX tranny's though. but if you are saving for a swap, just grab the cheapest one with the lowest miles.
