Your provider will probably rent you one for $5 a month... and they'll always cover it whenever it shits out.

they only wanted $40 to buy one, but i thought i'd try and find one cheaper/free first.

 

pretty sure i got one. surfboard style motorola from cox. im not using it and prolly never will. someone left it in an apt. when they moved and my dad is the landlord. pm me if ya want.

why not. the guy told me any cable modem is compatible, that i'd just have to call with the mac address.

 

Most cable ISP's are only compatible with certain kinds of modems.

 

Adelphia only charges $3 to rent thiers.

 

You should be alright as long as it is DOCSIS 2.0 and I would say even a 1.1 would work and you call in the Mac address. ISP's use alot of different brands so might as well try it.

 

I purchased the modem when I was living in Bedford from their cable supplier(comcast I think?!) When I moved back to Roanoke the installer tried using it but could not get it to work with cox. If you want to wait a couple of months then I can give you this modem. I'm hopefully moving back to botetourt so I will most likely be going with dsl since adelphia is horrible.
