Arrow Homeowners Association (update)

For those who don't already know the story, here's a quick synopsis:
  • My neighbor landscaped his tiny backyard for $13,000
  • I put up a fence, he called the county to complain
  • My neighbor parks both vehicles in his garage
  • I park all 3 + trailer outside, he called the county several times to complain
  • My neighbor had a 6'x8' shed custom built for $7000
  • I've been known to store construction materials outside on the driveway, he called the county to complain
  • My neighbor takes his car into a shop to get windshield wiper blades replaced
  • I routinely change my own oil and work on my vehicles in the driveway and on the street
  • My neighbor neatly bags all lawn clippings and throws them away with the trash to fill up the landfill
  • I let the mulching lawnmower blade do its thing and recycle more than I throw out
  • My neighbor has tried to start up a neighborhood association against me and 1 other neighbor
  • I let my neighbors know that there were management fees and legal trusts that needed to be setup, and that I was against forming a HOA
Seems that the only way to prevent my perfectly legal activities is to start a homeowners association. When I let the other neighbors know that starting an association required hiring an independent management agency that would charge fees, require insurance binders, and need a fund created they quickly retreated.

His house is now up for sale.

Nice, my neighborhood wanted to start one but I and a few other will not sign off on it. Something about me paying dues each year and having someone else telling me what I can and can't do my own house is not something I'm going to do.

My HOA story:

I live in the woods. It's a subdivision, but the lots are 10-20 acres and you cant see another house from my house. Someone had the bright idea of forming a HOA two years ago. Out of 28 houses about 15 signed on, the rest said "No thanks.", including us. A year ago they sent out a letter saying that they were going to pave our main road, which was gravel since 1983, and that they wanted ALL the houses to pay. After a few threatening letters to us the lovely HOA sucked up the bill and ended up paying the $34,000 for the pave job.

For a month it was great. I had my own personal test track that was newly paved and sealed and had lots of grip. Then....they installed speed bumps. Fuckers.

I'm just happy I personally caused them to spend more money for speed bumps. I'm the first house on the road, so the speedbumps don't effect me unless I go flying past my house. Bonus.
