How do you guys lane change? I have a problem knowing when a car is in my blind spot when I am changing lanes. In my car, I would do a quick look to my side to see if a car is there, but when I try that on my motorcycle, it seems as if my helmet is about to blow me off the bike. What is the solution to lane changing? just speed up and edge over?

 

get a smaller helmet, i had to go from a Small to an Xsmall and that solved my problem, so now i can turn my head anywhere when i switch lanes.
But half the time, i go fast enough that the cars are only in front of me for a second before i pass them, get into their lane and then switch lanes to get in front of another car into more space.....(ya ima bitch sometimes)

 

How come I always hear bikes zooming past on the interstate close to me? Does the cops bother motorcycles like how the bother cars? I am afraid to go past the speed limit in fear of being pulled over.

 

well if ur goin fast enough they won't bother chasing u, they might radio ahead, but they won't chase u. Besides this, everyone knows that bikes are faster than the average cop cars. But state troopers will chase u, even if they do have that No Chase law.

 

if you are doing 186 mph, they probably wont even catch the color of the bike. but i you see them, bail next chance u get haha. you cant outrun a radio.

Between your mirrors and a quick glance over your shoulder, you should be fine. Make sure you have a proper fitting helmet.

Be VERY aggresive. Try and stay out in front in a lot of traffick.

You can adjust your mirrors on the motorcycle, just like in a car, to cover your blind spot. The only thing you have to remember is that a motorcycle has more horizontal movement in a lane, so your adjustments are done while in the left part of the lane, it'll be slightly off compared to the right side of the same lane.

Since I spend all my time in the left lane, I adjust my right mirror to catch my blind spot, and then keep my left mirror the same. Given my speed and the fact I can see car to my left if I'm passing allows me, at least on the interstate, to get back over safely.

Another thing to think about is the fact that just by shifting your weight slightly, you'll also shift your head, which naturally shift the angle reflected in your mirror. Which means when you can crouch lower or little to one side, you can turn a regularly positioned mirror into one that can detect your blind spot without having to turn your head to either side.

Above all, just check your mirrors constantly so that you know relative speeds of all the cars around you.
