im painting my wheels black. what brand and type of paint do you suggest? clearcoat? other advice ect. all that jazz. thanks!

I used cheap Wal Mart primer and VHT brake caliper paint when I painted a set a couple of years ago. They looked good until I tried to put clear on them. For some reason the clear wrinkled everything up.

 

I also sanded them down thoroughly with a Mouse and cleaned them up before I got started. I think that makes a BIG difference in the final product.

 

Prep is key.

 

if you want them to last and look good, get a painter, prime em and use real paint and real clearcoat.shiny shine shine.

 

I sanded them completely down, cleaned them with rubbing alcohol, 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of black Engine Enamel, 1 coat of clear.

Looked good and held up very well.

 

Glossy or Flat?

 

It took most of the day when i did mine. Like Ritz said, its all about prep. The sanding took up 75% of the time.

I paint cars for a living, I'll paint them for you if they are off the car.

 

im torn between all flat black, all glossy, or either with a polished lip. the rims are rota circuit 8's if any one would care to photoshop them for me or present an opinion

they are currently bronze with a polished lip (or a VERY light bronze lip)

im kinda leaning towards all flat black. im so indecisive
