I'm going to invest in some traction bars sometime soon, to help with my launches, anybody have any input on good brands / setups?

Traction bars?

You have rear coil springs, traction bars are used on a leaf spring suspension to prevent spring wrap.

You should check into some upper and lower control arms. The factory stamped steel pieces are junk. If you go with adjustable control arms you can dial in a more negative pinion angle for better traction. After that you may want to check into shocks/struts and springs. Removing the front sway bar will also help you in a straight line launch.

 

Hrm, I was under the assumption that traction bars could be used on either setup, only because I've seen other foxbody owners with traction bars, and these were newer, not the early 80's models, which if I remember correctly, were equipped with leafs.

 

Mustangs have used a 4 link rear with coil springs since 79, I'm sure of. 64.5-73 were leaf springs. I'm not sure about the 74-78 Mustang II's tho.

 

Alright, thanks for clearing that up, should have researched it a little more. I've found some coil-over setups I like online, may invest in something like that along with the adjustable lower / uppers.

 

Coil overs are nice, but may be a bit much for you just starting. I'd definately go w/the control arms, springs and shocks. You'll see a good improvement there. Sticky tires are a must have as well. Do you have limited slip (posi)? If not you need to invest in a new carrier w/a clutch type lsd for limited racing, or a locker for more time at the track.

 

i would not suggest coil overs on a DD..... The shock towers are not built for CO's. I would suggest you remove the front sway bar (rear optional). Install some 4cyl foxbody front springs (you can cut them a little). either keep the stock rear springs or go with a stiffer spring like a eibach. put a set of 90/10's in the front and a set of 50/50's in back. then a good set of uppers and lowers of your choice. then you should hook.

 

Yeah, I've got 3.73's, so coil-overs a little too high for now, suppose I'll look at getting some KYB Gas's, and some Eibach lowering springs to drop it 1 - 1 1/2", thanks for the input.
