Default SR20det Timing Problems

I have just put an a sr20det redtop in my car, the only problem is during shipping my motors cas was cracked and broken. I took the other cas out of my blown motor and put it in the new sr....It suprisingly started but obviously runs like crap and the timing needs to be set, after I find out how to "stab" the cas and then adjust the timing???If anyone could please help me with this I would appreciate it greatly!!!

I REALLY wouldn't do that kind of thing yourself.

The Sr20 Cas is not like a honda dist. You can't just put it in one way. You have to line up TDC and line up marks on the cas. Once you have it in, you have to set the ecu into diagnostic mode and and unplug the tps and set timing.

"Stabbing" the CAS is easy. The procedure is in the S14 SR20det FSM. I'd recommend downloading one from www.zeroyon.com.

I downloaded the s14 service manual and I read the section about setting the timing and all that good stuff, seems pretty simple, it doesnt really say how to go about stabbing the CAS...I know you take off the valve cover and crank the motor over until the timing mark on the crank pully is lined up with the second line from the left, making sure the locating dots on the cam gears are pointed straight up....but where does the disc on the CAS have to be??

What disc? Once you line up the dots properly, tighten the 2 12mm bolts that hold the CAS to the head. After that, check and fine tune timing.

the disc inside the cas that sends the signal....basically where the gear needs to be lined up to put it in when the dots are lined up

If you line the dots up right, there is no need to worry about that.

So it doesnt matter where the CAS is, just line up the cams and the crank and stick the CAS in and it will run fine?

Make sure the engine is at TDC when you put in the CAS. And make sure the dots on the CAS line up properly when you put it in.
