Default 240 Auto to Man conversion

I did the auto to manual conversion on my 1989 240 hatch this weekend. Where the clutch pedal bolts in at there was an orange box that looked like it had a buzzer in it. It wasn't in the car I took the clutch pedal out of but i'm not sure what it controls. Question is :
1. What is it and what does it control?

2. Do I still need it?

It just ties into the main harness. I can't really tell where the leads go. Unless someone knows for sure I guess I will just try to start it with it in and out once I get the motor back in.

It's the Shift Lock Control Unit. You should be able to remove it, but you're going to have to probably run a wire directly from your ignition to the starter in order to bypass it.
