Default The Eagle that took flight in 2002...

This story is about my 1993 AWD Tsi that I totalled in 2002... pretty neat story imo....

Well for those who have known me for quite some time now, know that I used to have a 1993 AWD Tsi back in 2002. Well I owned the car for 4 days and only drove it 500 miles before it was totalled at 79,000 miles. Now for the complete story…

It was August 23rd I believe, that day being a Wednesday. Well I had just started a new job working at Pomoco Chryseler of Newport News the day before after work we decided to go to “Wacky Wednesday” at Langley Speedway. So of you know this as extreme Wednesday or whatever it’s called now. Anyways, we head over to Langley and it turns out they have some circus stunt act going on and it was going to be like $15 to get it to see this… screw that. So it was my bright idea to hit up the $.99 value menu at Wendy’s on Magruder Blvd.
My buddy is in a 89 Mustang GT and of course Im in the Talon. We come up on Wendy’s and Magurder is empty, dead, no one in sight and of course the light turns red. So instead of just going to Wendy’s I hop back into the lane and line up with him. We had raced previously but either there was too much traffic, or one of us missed a gear or something didn’t allow us to get a full race and here was our chance. About 30 seconds before our light turns green a little white car pulls out from the road besides Wendy’s and takes off down the road. By the time our light turned green he was a good distance away from us.
So the light turns green and we take off, of course Im ahead due to me being AWD. I was make a goo assumption that I was 4-5 cars ahead of him from the start. He was catching me quickly as I started to catch the little white car. At this point I’m topping out 2nd gear going into 3rd. I am still in front of the mustang by a half of a car if not more by the time I needed to go to 4th. Well I was done and was catching the white car quicker than I wanted to. I look up in my rear view mirror, see the mustang behind me, signal to get over and do so. While I am looking in my rear view mirror, I go to shift into 4th nice and easy. Yeah never made it to 4th, try 2nd.
The car lunges forward, I havent lost control, I just pretty much try to do cartwheels with my car. The mustang slams on brakes, tries to swerve to avoid me, hits my back bumper with a total contact point of about 4”-6”. This causes my car to turn sideways and head for the ditch. I try to get the car to get out of the sideways slide by turning the wheel, but at the angle I was at and the loose gravel in the ditch, it wasn’t turning. Next thing I know, I am upside down with dirt flying in my face… this is the point where the car is flipping if you cant put two and two together. The next thing I remember is laying on my left side in the car wondering if I was in a dream. Turns out it wasn’t a dream.
I ended up climbing out of the car through the passenger side window. About 30-45 minutes later the car is on a flatbed heading to so holding yard until State Farm decides on what they want to do with the car. Obviously I was going to just let them have the car since at the time it was my only ride. I sign the title over and the 1g was out of my life…. So I thought.
Well during the 2006 Spring Team Top End Poker Run, I get a call from a friend of mine. This is how the conversation went:
Noel: Nick, didn’t you wreck a 93 Awd Talon?
Me: Yeah in 2002
Noel: Black right?
Me: Yeah why?
Noel: I think I just bought your old car

I must say it was hard to believe him at first, I mean come on 4 years later… so the conversation continues….

Me: No way, how many miles are on the car
Noel: 79,000
Well Ill be damned, it was my old car. I was pretty shocked at the fact he bought it as a parts car. The only reason he got it was because it had only 79,000 miles on the car. He ended up finding the car at some place about 50 miles across the NC border. The lady who had the cars also had a GVR4 that she accidently picked up. So there is what I consider a crazy story. Enjoy the pictures and the car is being parted for those who care…

I was really about to cry when the insurance company told me how much they were going to give me vs. how much I paid 4 days prior. Fuck blue book value that car was super nice.

0psi aka zeropsi messed up his built motor at the track going from 3rd to 2nd.
Ninety7GSX blew his head gasket doing the same thing as well at the track...
