which clutch
i have recently just built a b18c5 and was wondering which clutch i should go with and what stage i should choose. the three main company's i have heard of are exedy, centerforce, and ACT. any info or personal experience with any of them or even another company would be greatly appreciated. i would like to be able to keep it street drivable but also have the option of takin it to the track.
i have the exedy stage 2 3 puck disc on my turbo gsr and it grabs pretty good, and i paid about 450 for the kit, stage 3 exedy runs about 1000+, i was told exedy stage 2 is equivalent to other companies stage 3
act stage 2 is all your will ever need and it is greatly streetable (you don't need to much or all you will do is blow up the clutch) higher stage clutches are great for racing but not designed for street use, they will blow faster than a stock clutch would under normal driving.
I've had both ACT and Centerforce, and I like both of them. I'd lean toward the ACT for Honda stuff though, I've been very impressed with the performance for the price. I wouldn't go over the stage 2, or whatever the ACT extreme duty pressure plate and organic disc is. That's plenty of torque, the heavy duty plate is rated 243 ft/lb and the xtreme is rated 319 ft/lb. That's a lot of torque for a Honda, even with a mild turbo setup. Protect your drivetrain and don't go with anything more crazy than that, your tranny and left leg will thank you.
i'm a fan of the double plate exedy stage three racing clutches, thats what i've got in my shit and it works very well. BTW if you somehow burn up your clutch, you can replace the plates and it'll be good as new.
i have used exedy stage 1 full face clutches with heavy duty pressure plate for all my setups, (b16 nitrous, sohc turbo, ls turbo, all motor gsr) never had any problems whatsoever.
