I have just purchased a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse in damaged condition but i have fixed it up and the last problem to solve is the transmission. It won't shift higher than first gear. The previous owner had it read for codes and the ones it gave said there was an electrical short in the transmission. Could this just mean one or more of the wires going to the transmission are damaged? What could this be? It is an automatic transmission that ran fine before the accident and there is no visible damage to the transmission itself.

 

im not sure what could be wrong...prolly wiring cut...but if u need one i have an auto out of a 00 with 70000 miles ill let ya get for 300 bucks

 

so a wire probably just got cut in the crash? and i'll remember your offer, we are going to try to fix it within the week.

 

check the tranny cpu...being auto it should have a seperate cpu

 

if it is the cpu would i just need to replace it and how do i know what to get?
