AFC will work to a point... the more cylinder pressure you generate the more critical it is to tune the ignition map in order to make peak cylinder pressure accur at the desired degree after top dead center... too soon and you will blow the rod through the crank (in theory)... which is why we retard the spark after top dead center... too late and your setup will not be as efficient as it should be... this is why when you get into higher boost levels, say above 1 bar... it is critical to tune the ignition map to your specific setup... this is done through socketed ECU's and standalones... Uberdata, Hondata, Neptune, etc. being your socketed setups... and the better stand alones being offered by SDS, Motech, etc... it's all about what kind of numbers you are trying to make... if your not sleeved then you don't want to wander too far above 1 bar anyways because the sleeves can tend to shift (not saying people don't boost 18psi on stock internals, but assuming you want a reliable setup....) at 1 bar and below an AFC with a boost dependent timing retard will work... (jackson racing and MSD both have one on market).... as you don't want a $2,000 SDS standalone with crank triggers and the like on an engine only built to handle 14 psi of boost.... it's just impracticle... do a search on Honda-tech.com... there are some very helpful people on there that are putting down pretty good numbers with the AFC's, Fields, and other air fuel ratio controllers.....

I wouldn't even run 6psi on a afc. It not only doesn't allow you to retard timing, but tricks your ecu into thinking you are at a lower load point thus lowering your injector pulswidth (what you want with big injectors), but at the same time the ecu will be actually advancing your timing greater than stock under boost.

so then he should turn up the fuel pressure via a regulator and then tune it down with the AFC to get the fuel he needs??.... assuming he doesn't have to crank it up too high... this plus the boost timing master sounds like it'd be a cheap combo for low boost.... = )

No. Screw an AFC. Socket the ecu and get mshue to tune it.

Definitely get it socketed and tuned. I'm running a stock D16 on 10lbs with DSM 450cc injectors tuned on Chrome. It's my DD and i beat the hell out of it and have no problems at all(knock on wood).
