**Warning**Great Bridge Service Center
I just wanted to pass on a bad experience that I had last night.
I dropped off my track wheels and tires at Great Bridge Service Center (Citgo) earlier this week. They are on Battlefield Blvd near Cedar Rd. I had sold my old tires and needed to have the tires dismounted. They charged me $10 to dismount all 4 tires. I thought that was very reasonable and told them I would be back with the new tires later this week.
Last night I dropped off my wheels and some new Toyo RA-1s to get mounted and balanced. Now, please take note that I am not dealing with huge wheels. I have Kosei 15x7s and had 225/45 RA-1s mounted. I dropped them off with the kid working in the tire shop and said I would be back to pick them up in an hour or two. We went and had some dinner and headed back to pick up the tires. When I picked them up I was informed that it was gonna cost me $65.
I argued with kid about be charged too much and his response was that I was lucky, the manager told him to charge me $80 and he thought that was a little high. I told them that others have used them to mount tires and have never spent more than $40 to mount and dismount. After I was blue in the face, I decided to take my losses and call it a learning experience. They loaded the tires in my wife's 4Runner and we headed out.
When I got home and started unloading the wheels, I noticed that one wheel had about 4lbs of weights stuck on it. I spun the wheel around and found that the kid never took old weights off the wheel and had just added more weight to the wheel to balance it. Well needless to say, I was hot!!! I threw the wheel back in the 4Runner and headed back up there.
I rolled the wheel back into the shop and told them what was wrong. They told me that my wheel must be damaged, because they ALWAYS pull all the old weights off before balancing the wheels. Now my old weights had tape over top of them so I had less of a chance of throwing them off at the track. So I asked the kid to show me the tape that he put on my wheels. What tape??? I showed him the weights that were tapped over and he realized that he screwed up and quickly snatched the wheel up and headed back toward the balance machine. I told him that it kinda defeated the purpose of buying lightweight race wheels if he was going to stick 4lbs of balancing weights on the wheel. His response was "Well, we're not a race shop".
So, needless to say, they will never see my business again. I figured I would pass on my experience so that none of you have to go through the same shit. From now on, I will drive the few extra miles down to Pungo Off Road to have my tires mounted.
