Here's the issue. The VR sensor in my VR6 turbo supplies the tech signal to both the stock ecu to run the factory tach and all of it's related hardwear, and to my 034EFI stand alone ECU. Because it's not designed to supply signal to both, I'm getting an unreliable signal to my stock tach and causing an intermittent loss of synch in the 034EFI ECU. The fix for the problem is going to be a couple of 5.1k ohm resistors inline from the VR trigger to the 034 ECU. My problem is that I question the reliability of soldering a solid metal resistor lead to a normal wire.

Have any of you done this before or have any ideas on how to make the most reliable connection possible?

 

I'd guess just make sure you get the wire wrapped around the wire tightly and solder it good. Then maybe heat-shrink and wrap it up?

 

Yeah right now all I can think of is to soldier it good and then I'll definantly heat shrink it to protect it and also give it some extra support (think backbone kinda). I was hoping someone has had to do something like this before and could share what they did. I think computer people do it sometimes to step down the signal to a fan or something.

 

If it is stranded wire solder the tip first use lots of flux and you should be fine just wrap it up to insulate from other conductors also if you need exact resistors check the tolerance then check with a multimeter to make sure they are within the tolerance radio shacks resistors mostly are not very accurate so just check

 

the resistors will solder just fine. i've done it before on alarm systems.
