Engine Swap details needed
I have a 2001 Suzuki GSXR600. I keep hearing about guys swapping out their 600cc motor for a 1000cc motor... Frankly I want in!!!!!!!
I wanted to know how much is the kit and what other little tid bits I need to know before I go through with it...
I just saw a 2004 Suzuki GSXR600 with a 2002 GSXR1000 motor in it on an unimportant website .... It is like the silent killer....
So anyone that knows anything about this let me know.... Thanks

Re: Engine Swap details needed
the only thing that'll be a drop in is a gsxr750 from around the same year. putting in a 1000 will require the front motor mounts to be cut off and rewelded a lil farther forward. there is no "kit" to do it, you just have to start chopping, basically.

Re: Engine Swap details needed
question is....why??
the 600 is only a fraction of an inch smaller than the 1000 (the bike, not the motor) all the plastic and whatnot is the same. the only real difference, chassis wise, is the suspension. the 1000 has inverted forks, and the 600 doesn't. why not just take your 600 plastic and put it on a 1000? you'll have pretty much the same bike, with alot less headache. by the time you got the 1000 motor into your 600, it'd weight the same as a 1000, and be physically the same size, so you would't really accomplish much. you'd just have a 1000 with 600 suspension.
if you really wanna build a big motor/little bike frankenbike, that's cool, but doing it with newer gsxr stuff is kinda pointless. there's really no major differences between the 600/750/1000 frames to start with.
to each his own though.

Man Steve, you just rained all over that kid's parade!!! Just kiddin'. I wish somebody had talked me out of half of my hairbrained projects. For some reason I like taking the hard way! On the upside though, I can work on most of my own shit now!

I wouldnt say it would be a waste, and that youd basically just have a 1000 in a 600 frame..
i think it would be a waste if you did that with a 750 motor, but suzuki has always made it a point to keep the 1000's different from the 600/750's. in the long run, yes, i would be better to just buy a 1000 and have a bike that works, with the suspension to go with it. but it would be a cool project just to do.

i think what steve is trying to say is that its like putting a corvette motor in a honda civic LOL.
u should just get a sleeper turbo kit or something fuk a 1000cc motor!! Turbo would be fun but im nowhere near mature enough to control myself if i had one LOL

Re: Engine Swap details needed
what i meant was....
go park your gixxer600 next to a gixxer1000 of the same year, as far as phyisical size goes, there's no difference. the only reason there's a weight difference is because of a bigger motor and stiffer/heavier suspension.
so.... putting a 1000 motor into a newer 600 doesn't accomplish much. the frames between the 600 and the 1000 are almost identical. hell the rear motor mounts ARE identical. the only difference is the location of the front motor mounts. so... you'd still endup with a very expensive gixxer1000 with 600 suspension. since the bikes are the same anyway other than the size of the motor and some different suspension, you could just put 600 plastic on a 1000 and have the same bike (with better suspension) as you would if you put a 1000 motor into a 600. bikes just aren't built like they were before. most of the 600/750/1000 gsxrs are pretty much the same bike, just with different motor sizes.
now, if you found a screaming deal on a complete 1000 motor, with the fuel injection system, exhaust, wiring, and all the other stuff you'd need to put it in, and you already had a 600, but wanted a bigger motor, then maybe i could see why you'd want to do it.
i know, i did the same thing before with my 7/12. (750 with a 1200 motor) but that's a whole different animal. that was suzuki's lightest sportbike frame with one of thier biggest motors, and that motor was far from stock. it's all about power to weight. the bike i built weighed alot less than a stock gixxer, and had almost twice the power.
putting a 1000 motor into a newer 600, yeah, you have gixxer1000 power, but it still weighs as much as a gixxer1000, so you'd be no better off than having a gixxer1000. and you'd still have suspension that wasn't designed for that much power or weight.
makes sense to me anyway. to each his own.
if you're gonna go thru all the hassle of building a frankenbike... why build something that's almost identical to what you can by off the showroom floor?
stick a 'busa motor in it... now we're talkin..

nope, missed that one.
seen a few of lee shierts's (sp?) busa powered srad 600's though. he calls 'em "scuds". that'd be fun to ride. i'd have to leave it at stock hieght and unstretched though, just to go do big fat pow-pow-power wheelies in any gear.

I have a 04 gsxr 600 with 1000 motor, my friend has put a 1000 in a 2001 600 also . If you want more info pm me.
I was looking into doing the busa swap but you have to cut the plastic and you can see difference in motor size.
