the thing with tire rack saying the best you can do is a 205 is for a reason. The reason is just because the rim is 7.5 inches doesn't mean you still have the tire well space left.
For example my 2003 Honda Civic Si. I can put up to 18 inches rim that is 7.5 inches wide. I can mount a really wide tire on that rim (upwards of 245 although it would look like a balloon instead of a tire). The problem is my tire well won't let me have a tire any wider that 7.5 inches because I will rub on the struts and the lip of the well. So yes my rim can handle more but my car can't unless I do some aftermarket mods to allow for the extra tire width.
And as a side note just because you have a 6.5 inch rim it isn't always the best to have the widest possible tire on that rim. There is a crossover from wo much tire width and to narrow of a rim. My recommendation if tire rack says the widest you can go safely is 215 then only go to 215. If you do go 215 don't go put it on a rim the is more than 1 inch narrower. or 6.5 inches.
I run 15x6 with a 205 Kuhmo. It works great. any more tire width and my sidewalls would roll over to easy and it keeps me in stock class.
If I was running STS I plan on 15X7.5 with a tire width of 225. The max my car and go without rubbing.
Everyday driving I plan on 17X7 and 225 or 215. When hte casj appears.
I hope this helps and stay safe and have fun.
