Default 88 mercury cougar 5.0

I found one for 750 dollars locally, and I've been looking around the internet and it seems like it would be a cool car to learn about V-8s on. Does anyone have any personal experience/ opinion about these cars or should I keep looking for something else.

Thanks in advance

i would look into getting a more playable plateform like the 5.0 mustangs which you can get for about the same price.....

Considering the V8 in the Cougar is almost identical to the Mustang's, I'd say go for it. It is much cheaper than you'd be able to get a Mustang for the same year for.

I've had a couple Thunderbirds from the same era w/5.0 motors and they were nice cars. Good for driving around, comfortable, and all the Mustang 5.0 motor parts will work on them, to an extent.

If its running, for that price its a good deal.

Cast pistons, peanut cam, restrictive heads, smaller injectors, different firing order, smaller throttle body...NO power after 4800 rpm...other than that...if you make a few minor changes to the above items, you can really make some power. I've been 110 mph all motor with a grand marquis motor...
