Your best bet is going to be to try some on. I know that doesn't help you much, but different brands vary widely. A 48 from one company might not be the same as a 48 from another.

To order without trying one on, you need to have your measurements. Like if you were to get fitted for a tux. The best place i get my stuff from is newenough.com real good prices, service and shipping! Tonker.com is good also!
