New Guy- What is auto-x?
it is a bunch of weekenders who get together in parking lots and race. Courses are set up with cones in parking lots and you race against the clock. The are like time trials on coned courses in huge parking lots. The are several clubs in virginia that run autocrosses.

To add:
It's a great way to test both the limits of your ride and yourself.
You will learn more about how to drive and how to set up sways, shocks, and bars in three events than you will with a year of street driving....
Good and bad:
You will QUICKLY find the weaknesses in your ride AND your driving.
Stick with it and you'll have a bad-ass handling car and you'll end up a MUCH better driver that you ever though was possible, and you'll be able to smoke any Corvette driver through the twisties (except Gill Smith).
