86 Supra.. Good cars?
Im looking into buying a 86 Supra I6 3.0 Its cheap and needs some work. But it would be a project car. Are these older supras any good? can they put down decent numbers and track times? and what kind of reliability?

once you get the head gaskets fixed they are great cars, look into the hardtops as they are considerably lighter than the piggish targas. 300-320 whp can be achieved on a stock motor with uprated injectors, exhaust, intercooler, EBC. good luck. btw its I6, not v6, just so you dont offend the supra folk around here.

Metal headgasket with arp bolts and you are set. Dont expect to push too much horsepower with the NA but if you do get it, get the metal headgasket and check your oil level weekly because these cars tend to get rod knock because the owners never check oil levels and it gets low sometimes. If you want to know anything else about the 3rd gen let me know and i also have couple supras for sale too

you know a 86 NA is pretty much the bottom of the supra barrel. I would take that money and put it into a nicer condition last year mk2 supra instead of the NA mk3. They are much sportier as they weigh almost 800 lbs less, and only 20 less hp. Think of the mk2 as a beefed up hachi.
