Ok so i was on my way to harrisonburgh on halloween weekend and i got pulled over in staunton about an 1 1/2 hours from where i live and i was thinking it was for exhaust but the cop tells me suspension. Well he tells me the rule is 14-28 inches from ground to bumper support and he measures and comes back and tells me it sits at 10 inches and i asked if i could see and he said no i cant get out of the car.....well after the drug dog searches my car he comes back and says let me tell you what im going to do...im going to give you a ticket and im going to take your tags and you have 15 days to have this fixed and ill give you your tags back...he also gave me a ticket for not dispaying the little stickers on my plates even though i had the stickers at my house so it the plates were fine just no stickers......so then he has my car towed 1/2 mile to (what i told him was my grandads but was just some house to keep the price on towing down) well he sitll charged me 75 dollars for the half mile tow. I get out and measure and 10 inches goes to the middle of my INTERCOOLER what an idiot but i still did the supsension work at 11pm in nice clothes called the cop and he came back and gave me my tags......sound like i got anal raped by the cop others think so let me hear your opinions....sorry for the post being so long.

I'm gonna go with - that cop is a dick, but he didn't really do anything wrong. All of your tickets were legit, basically any car with altered suspension is illegal. I'm not sure if he towed bc of the suspension, I'm guessing that's why.

I'm also not sure what his point was to make you fix it right then, but just be glad it's over with, and if you did get a ticket for suspension you can get out of it.

Maybe Smokey or one of his pals will chime in and give us better insight.

yeah i have no problem with the ticket the license plate ticket or the altered suspension but he said it was for height and woudlnt let me get out of the car to show him where the bumper bar was and i heard they arent aloud to touch your tags unless they dont belong to you (heard that from an x cop) i have no problem getting tickets when i have done soemthing wrong but i felt that was a little excessive and i knew he didnt know what an intercooler was and thought it was my support

How did you modify the suspension so fast? coilovers?

That cop was a asshole and had nothing better to do with his time. I dont know the law about him taking your tags like that, but i would try to find out from a lawyer. Thats only if you want to take it that far though...

yeah i have coilovers and actually could only raise one side cause we had no light and stripped the allen screw on the other side so i fucked up my suspension too....pretty horrible night and it was like 40 degrees outside....i think im just goint to take pictures and try to fight it but i doubt i will win cause we never do...i do think it was my right (he coudl have even handcuffed me) to get out of the car nd watch the measurement

taking the tags was probably also due in part that you had no stickers on them?

i had stickers they were just outdated....that should be a fix it ticket

That all seems a little excessive. Every time I've asked to get out I've been allowed to do so.

I would stop by a lawyer's office and tell him your story, and then see what he says.

Yeah, it does seem a little excessive. Take the car to a dealership / mechanic and get them to verify that it does sit at -x- height.
