i can't recommend anybody in particular, but make sure to do plenty of research-you could easily have your condition made worse by a bad procedure.my boss has had back problems for years, but has decided to live with it since no doctor around here has convinced him it's worth it considering the risks.obviously, with your condition you'll HAVE to get something done.
i'm assuming your old employer is covering the expenses?

A bud of mine had surgery for a ruptured disc week before last. Seems to be doing fairly well as of right now...if you can call managable pain fairly well. Considering he was literally in tears while eating hand fulls of pain killers before and is now down to once or twice a day doses of darvaset(sp?) hes def better off now.

I can call him and find out who did his and post up if you want.

I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back. L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1. This happened from a car wreck about 5 years ago and I went through Physical Therapy, Pain medicine and Chiropractic treatment. I was told I would need surgery sometime and was reffered to Dr. Leipzig at Lewis Gale. He is the only Spinal Surgeon in the Roanoke Valley. That is all he does unlike some of the other docs. I have not had surgery yet and dont plan too till I can not absolutely move at all. I have times when my back locks up and I cant get out of the bed but they are not that often. I usually just take Aleve during my normal day and that will relieve the pain. Aleve has naproxen in it which is an inflammatory and helps alot. Im now 28 and Im putting off surgery aslong as possible. I know a few people who have had back surgery and they didnt get much relief from it. They also told me to put it off until ABSOLUTELY neccesary. Once you mess up your back it'll never be the same . But if you need someone to talk to about surgery Id suggest Dr. Leipzig since he is a specialist. Hope that helps . Good Luck

I also forgot to put that Chriopractic treatment helped greatly. At first I seen the chiropractor 3 times a week for about 6 months then moved it to 2 a week and so on . At first there wasnt any improvement but after time it helped alot. Dr. Slakman on peterscreek road is a great chiropractor. Seen a big improvement on MRI's from before and after. Just trying to put some options out there.
