Default Turbo Question.

Im not much of a turbo guy, I mean Iv had turbo cars before but m looking around for a turbo to buy aannndd I have no fucking idea what Im looking at. When it says a T3/T4 flang (the turbo manifold Im looking to buy has both) what does that mean? also, what are the components of a turbo kit, if your say... peicing one togeather rather then buying a kit itself. oh and also, for the wastegate it says 38mm tial wastegate, wtf does that mean?

its sooo much more money to piece together...seriously, i tried doing it with my FD , but unless you already have some of the componenents that come with the kit, its uber (cause you have a volkswagon) expensive. just get a turbonetics kit, they come with everything you need/will need, including a fine broad to sit shotty

I've always believed it was cheaper to piece together a turbo kit

generally, turbo, external wastegate if the turbo does not have a internal one, intercooler, a aftermarket cone airfilter, a turbo manifold with the proper flange, possible a new downpipe? , intercooler piping, a blow off of some kind whether it be to the atmosphere or recirculated, boost controller, and then you will have to see how much your injectors and fuel pump can flow, if you'll need a programmable ecu or something.

T3/T4 is a kind of turbo housing. But when you see T3/T4 usually it means that the turbo has the T4 internals into a T3 housing for a faster spool and more CFMs.
T3 flange = T3 housing
T4 flange = T4 housing <-- noticely bigger than the T3
But this doesn't matter because it'll all be in the kit you'll buy.

Buy a kit.

But here's a general run down of what you'll need:
Manifold
Turbo
Charge pipes
Intercooler
Some sort of intake
Injectors
Blow off valve
Boost controler
Turbo timer
New exhaust from the turbo all the way back
Gauges
Clutch
And the most important thing and what you should spend your money on: engine management. If you do actually don't listen to me and decide to piece something together running a RRFPR and a shitty piggyback, I'll fucking kill you for being an idiot after your motor explodes.

And that's just the main stuff, other things like couplers and clamps will nickel and dime you to death. But you don't need to worry about it because it'll all be included in the kit you're gonna buy.

These are included in the kits.
38mm = size
Tial = brand
wastegate = wastegate
