This is transcribed from the June issue of Racecar Engineering magazine, my favorite thing to hit the news stands every month. It's a UK (British) mag, which is why this is kinda funny to see Hampton in it..
"Virginia's motorsport valley?
An American-based market analysis, called Frost Motorsports Impact Study, has concluded that Hampton, VA could become a one-stop location for engineering technology and testing for the motorsport industry.
It has recommended building a test and race track and R&D facility in the area and claims that there is no other location in the world that would offer such total concentration of resources. It said that per capita, Hampton and the region boasts the highest concentration of scientists, engineers, and technicians - second only to the Silicon Valley – and recommended that racing and motorsport teams tap into this labor pool.
‘Hampton feels it can successfully tap into the growing performance engineering market estimated at US$5billion that is increasing rapidly,’ said Ray White, director of Hampton Economic Development.
Trends indicate that the performance engineering market is forecasted to increase by 60 per cent within the next five years.
The study used the Langley Full Scale Tunnel, which has attracted NASCAR teams for aerodynamic testing, as a commercial indicator. It said that by tapping into the motorsports industry, the LFST had been able to generate surplus revenue and operate in the black, while repoening and important technology asset."
