miata 1.6v s 1.8
I have a question,
which is a better motor, the 1.6l or the 1.8l in the miata,
I want to make around 250-300 hp in it, which is better for tuning with turbo
let me know guys thanks

You're going to get a lot of different opinions on this subject. Some people swear up and down that the 1.6 is a better motor for turbo charging simply because its higher reving. I don't have any experience with these, however I did assist a friend in installing a Flyin' Miata kit on his 1.8. His car was basically an FM2 car with the FM1 intercooler and a small exhaust. I believe he made somewhere around 210 rwhp with a lot of it being limited by the tiny intercooler/exhaust combination. I will tell you, it was a fun little car to drive even with just 210 whp. 300 would be a blast.
If you want 250 whp in a miata, you're going to want a 1.8 unless you're buying a car that's already built.
If you go with a 1.6, there are a good number of things you're going to want to change, like the differential for example. The diffs on 1.8 cars can handle up around 300+whp.
V8 swap kits cost around 4 grand, and you're going to have to add the cost of the engine and transmission on top of that, as well as numerous other random costs.

the 1.8's that have forged internals stock are bulletproof.
literally, i shot mine, and it kept on running. i generally beat on cars like bobby beats on whitney, and 1.8 mazda's with the forged internals are some of the toughest engines i've ever tried to break. unsuccessfully.

The 1.8 motor is better for all our power, but you are pretty much gonna have to build either one to get to 300. Which by the way is a little over kill in a Miata. I would say mine was most fun at 215whp, and if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't do what I have done (over 400).
If you are going to shoot for 300 use an AEM, I had a link from FM and made 400 with it, but had to use 8 lbs more boost to do it then with the AEM.
Good Luck

Oh yeah, and if you show it a little sympathy, the Diff can last well over 300 hp, I'm still using mine.
